BME Market Data manages a family of climate indices that measure Spain's climate risk, both nationally and regionally. These indices track the behavior of various climatic variables (Sunshine, Temperature, Wind and Precipitation) and the economic relevance of each of the Spanish Provinces, with the purpose of measuring the climate’s economic impact.
These indices are referenced to the average value of each of the climatic variables from a wide group of metereological stations distributed throughout Spain. The individual value of each province is weighted by their contribution to the national economy. Hence, the temperature, precipitation, sunshine, or wind speed of the Provinces with the highest economic exposure to climate will have a higher weight when calculating the national average.
All measurements are considered in their historical context, in order to understand the behavior of each day in relation to the behavior of similar days in the past.
